The Link Between Exercise and Chiropractic Care

exerciseWhen you’re young and you have your workout routine, unless you have a major incident like a broken leg or a sprained ankle, nothing can really get in the way of your fitness. It’s easy to just keep going, hit it hard and push yourself to the limit. Unfortunately, as you get older, things don’t come quite as easily.

As a recently turned 30-year-old women, I can tell you that I have started to feel the wear and tear of age affecting my workouts, and it isn’t fun. Trying to work yourself hard at the gym while simultaneously dealing with lower back pain or chronic neck pain can make it extremely difficult to continue with your fitness. Not only is it hard to sufficiently go through your exercises, but you risk further injuring yourself, which can put you out of commission for the long term.

A great way to keep up your physical health as well as prevent future impairments is by implementing a form of physical therapy into your life. Chiropractic treatments are a type of natural care that may improve your fitness without the use of harsh medications or invasive medical procedures. Chiropractic may be especially helpful for people who participate in strength training or intense cardio activity. Regular exercise can help contribute to the reduction in body pain. With weight lifting you can strengthen muscles in the back and abdomen, which helps alleviate chronic pain. Aerobic workouts increase weight loss, tones muscles, helps with blood flow and improves digestion, all which can ease stress and tension in the body.

Chiropractic manipulations may help diminish any pain that cannot be corrected with exercise alone. When subluxations occur in the spine it hinders the circulation of the nervous system. Subluxations are problem areas in the spine that cause blockages amongst the vertebrae. When they cause interference in the nervous system, it makes the body more susceptible to injury and pain.

Chiropractic adjustments can help to correct these subluxations, allowing the nervous system to flow freely throughout the body, not only allowing the body to heal itself as it naturally would, but by releasing built up pressure in the spine that can lead to pain and future injuries. When used as a supplement to an exercise program, chiropractic can act as a natural preventive medicine. It ensures that the body is cleared of any blockages that might be hindering the function of the nervous system and that there are no pressing issues that are causing acute stress that may cause long term nerve damage.
